Blackmarston School, Hereford

Blackmarston School

Design:

This cover enables the school to have a wildlife pond which is completely safe in the middle of their play area.

It is designed to appeal to children and is based on an echinacea flower.

6 petals form the basic shape, 3 are fixed and 3 are hinged, with the ability to be lifted off for maintenance.

The hinged petals are cantilevered, with weighted ends that resemble parts of a flower which rest inside the top dome.

At the bottom end are sprung catches which are padlocked when the cover is not open for pond dipping or for maintenance of plants, lights, pump etc.

There are also 6 sections between the petals which can only be removed when the petals are released.  These can be left in place for security or removed if more access is needed.

Materials:

The cover is made from galvanized steel, so it is very strong and has a life expectancy of at least 40 years before re-coating.

It has been painted in bright blue and yellow to be attractive and to complement its playground surroundings.
